A geodesic is the shortest distance between two points on a curved surface. When we consider a spherical surface, a geodesic can be visualized as the path that follows the great circle. A great circle is the largest circle that can be drawn on a sphere, with its center at the center of the sphere. Any two points on a sphere lie on a unique great circle, and the shortest path between these two points on the sphere is along this great circle :
